Top 10: Television Shows on Right Now

Game-of-Thrones-584585Top 10: Television Shows on Right Now

I felt a little reluctant writing this up because I have not seen all of the great shows on TV today. So if your favorite isn’t on here, it’s not because I’m a “complete idiot.” It may just be because I haven’t seen it yet.

I’m watching somewhere between 20 and 30 shows that are currently still running. I thought about doing this as a top 5, but the top 10 are all fantastic and deserve recognition.

So here are the Top 10 Television Shows on Right Now:

house-of-cards-season-3-210. House of Cards

I got into “House of Cards” a little late and I never felt like I fully fell in love with it. Still, it is consistently tense and well-written.  It is currently on its third season, which was its weakest, however the show continues to educate us about the complex mannerisms of Washington as well as its anti-protagonist Frank Underwood.

SN: “The Leftovers” Official Reaction Post

Carrie-Coon-and-Justin-Theroux-in-The-Leftovers-Season-2-Episode-1Official Reaction Post: “The Leftovers”

Season 2, Episode 4: It seem we’re running in some circles now. This episode showed, however, what makes “The Leftovers” great. Among the great mysteries, we still have time to breathe and show the characters grieving and vulnerable.

Season 2, Episode 3: Probably the weakest of the season so far. However, with Laurie speaking now, I think we’ve learned more about her character than in the whole first season combined.

Season 2, Episode 2: Felt like a lot of pretty big emotional issues were just swept under the rug at the start of this episode. Besides that, Episode 2 is re-assuring letting us know that our season 1 cast, as a whole, is still lingering around even if the main characters moved all the way south.

Season 2, Episode 1: Miss the original theme song. Though all in all it looks like this season is going to try to counter some of those “slow burn” reviews that season 1 got. Great, mysterious opening sequence which mirrored the conclusion of the episode. Very interesting new characters as well. Off to a great start.

Leftovers-episode-5Analysis: Television Mysteries

On June 29th, a new show premiered on HBO called “The Leftovers.” It was met with moderately positive reviews, critics only faulting it for its overbearing, depressing tone. The finale will air on Sunday and the show is a mystery, asking a lot of questions and answering very little.

The ads for “The Leftovers” were intriguing, so I jumped over to Metacritic to see if it’d be worth my time. The critic’s reviews were alright, but the user reviews were brutally negative, which was odd because only critics had screened the first few episodes. There were several 0/10 reviews from users, without first-grade grammar education, condemning the new show simply because Damon Lindelof was involved.
