Emmys: Final Predictions – 2015

Transparent-Recap-108Emmys: Final Predictions – 2015

On September 20th the 2015 Primetime Emmy award ceremony will begin.

It’s been about three or four years since I started predicting the Emmys, and it’s honestly one of the most difficult ones to predict.

Last night the Creative Arts Emmys were announced for all of the extraordinarily talented people behind the cameras. These are the best of the best, winning during this golden age of television.

Along with the technical awards, guest acting winners were announced, animated program, and TV Movie. We had finalized our predictions for those last night and you can see who won and how we did below.

For the main categories, Drama Series, Comedy Series, etc. It’s an all-out-brawl this year. Should be a lot of fun.

And if you’ve been visiting often, you may have noticed our poll in the sidebar. For the categories we polled we listed the current standings beneath. Voting will continue, however, right up until 2 days before the ceremony. The poll was for people’s personal picks, not their predictions.

Golden Globes: 2016 Television Predictions – September

fargo-season-2-trailerjpg-6457e3_1280wGolden Globes: 2016 Television Predictions – September

So many intriguing new Fall shows are about to start coming out, and before we know it, in December, we may be seeing some of them sneak their way into a couple Golden Globe nominations.

You have to kind of mirror the Emmys here, but the Golden Globes tend to take Television nominations in a different way. These predictions are real early, and predicting an “unseen” television show is twice as difficult as a movie.

We think that “Fargo,” “Game of Thrones,” “Mad Men,” “Transparent” will all make welcome returns while newcomers such as “Empire” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” may break out. Meanwhile “American Horror Story: Hotel” will likely hold down many of the “Mini-Series and TV Movie” categories.

So here is our complete Television Predictions. We’ve also updated all of our Golden Globe movie predictions which can all be found here.

Emmys: Best Lead Actress – TV Movie or Mini-Series

Cicely Tyson, The Trip to Bountiful
Helena Bonham Carter, Burton and Taylor
Minnie Driver, Return to Zero
Kristen Wiig, The Spoils of Babylon
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Coven
Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story: Coven

Last Update: 07/12/14

“American Horror Story: Coven” probably had the biggest audience out of all of these. In fact I guarantee it. Unfortunately it’s doubtful, even with a plethora of nominations, that “American Horror Story” wins any awards. The “mini-series” had a weaker season with lower critical praise. So I’m thinking they’ll give it to a veteran in Cicely Tyson. Still, it’s anyone’s game with Lange, Driver, Carter, and Wiig in the mix as well, depending on how the voters want to go.

We have fully updated all of our Golden Globe Predictions. This includes all categories, from the major film categories, to the mini-series and tv movie categories.

We have listed the top 5 in ABC order per category below, to give us an idea what the Golden Globe nominations would look like if they came now. Keep in mind a lot of TV shows and mini-series will come out between now and then, so the tv categories should be taken with a grain of salt.

Here is where we stand on all our predictions:

Hypothetical Casting: “The Last of Us”

hugh-jackman-joelHypothetical Casting: “The Last of Us”

On March 6 Deadline gave us the exclusive that the PS3 hit video game “The Last of Us” will have a live-action movie adaptation.

Seeing as how video game adaptations have suffered in the past or have just been announced and not released (BioShock, Halo) many of us are left wondering if this film will be any good or even ever exist.

Neil Druckmann, creative director behind the game, will be writing the script. This is huge and something that should’ve been considered for all prior video game adaptations. They’ll be teaming with Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures.

The other big question is who fits into these roles? We have compiled a list for the perfect cast. Keep in mind looks aren’t everything, we’re looking for actors that can really fit into the part both physically and emotionally. So here is our list:

Film Review: 12 Years a Slave

12-years-a-slaveFilm Review: 12 Years a Slave

After hearing all the raves and all the Oscar echoes, I finally got to sit down and see what all the fuss was about. “12 Years a Slave,” directed by Steve McQueen is based on an autobiography of the same name, written by Solomon Northup himself. The film retells the amazing story of Northup and his abduction as a free man into the dark world of slavery.

Many have distinguished the film for its depiction of brutality and yes, there are some brutal scenes. I went into the film misguided with those notions, the film didn’t focus-in on the brutality of slavery rather the helplessness  and despondency of it. Northup has many opportunities to escape, to run off into the southern wilderness, but where would he go? The south over-encumbered with slavers and racists. (more…)
