“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is a 1975 film directed by Miloš Forman, based on the 1962 novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Ken Kesey. It was the second of three films to ever complete the Oscar grand slam (when a film wins an Oscar in Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay – The other two were “It Happened One Night” and “The Silence of the Lambs”).
The story follows Randle Patrick “Mac” McMurphy, played by Jack Nicholson, a criminal serving a short-term sentence for statutory rape of a 15-year old girl, as he is transferred temporarily to a mental institution for evaluation.
The story unfolds primarily in the mental hospital. The film was shot at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Oregon, which was also the setting for the novel. (more…)

Analysis: Jack Nicholson may be retiring
Late last night Radar Online posted an article announcing the quiet retirement of Jack Nicholson:
“”Jack has – without fanfare – retired,” a well-placed Hollywood film insider confirmed to Radar. “There is a simple reason behind his decision – it’s memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him.””
No official word has been said from Nicholson or a representative of him. After a slew of internet buzz around the actor’s retirement ITV announces this evening that the reports are false. Stating that an unnamed source told NBC News that the record-breaking 12-time Oscar nominee is “actively reading scripts and is looking forward to his next project.”
