SideNote: “The Sea of Trees” tanks at Cannes Film Festival

“The Sea of Trees” was reportedly “booed” at Cannes today after its conclusion. An act that is highly disrespectful and isn’t at all what true film criticism is about.

There’s a lot to rant about there, but the bottom-line is that this film had a great amount of potential with Gus Van Sant directing, and a star-filled cast consisting of Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe, and Naomi Watts.

Roadside Attractions bought the rights to distribution earlier this week. So we’ll get to see the film for ourselves soon, but for now please disregard the films placement in any of our Oscar or Golden Globe Predictions. We will fully update our predictions once Cannes concludes.

Oscar: Way too Early Oscar Predictions – 2016

quentin-tarantino-hateful-eightOscar: Way too Early Oscar Predictions – 2016

Wow. There are a lot of great film to look forward to next year. Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, David O. Russell, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Tom Hooper, Stephen Frears, Joel/Ethan Coen, Martin Scorsese, Werner Herzog, Gus van Sant, Terrence Malick, and Ridley Scott all have films in the mix.

The big story though is the release of a 40 year-old film written/directed by Orson Welles. So we could potentially have a strong line-up of contenders.

Again, this early on most of these predictions are guided by the talent attached to the project (both on and off camera), the potential release dates, and the distribution. Because it is so early we only have Best Picture, Directors, and the acting categories predicted. Take from these what you can to make your own predictions as well!
