Since we had a lot of success with our top 20 films of the decade so far list, we decided to take a look at some of the best video games of the 2010s so far.

Of course, we will update this list more promptly early 2016 to include the games from this year, with “Bloodborne” looking really strong it may make an appearance.

With the decade half over, and a not-so-smooth transition into the next console generation, we still have some strong video games on this list. So here are the top 20 Video Games of the decade so far:

Here they are! Last year we started compiling our own award nominations based on user reviews and critic reviews. We have some excellent contenders for films, video games, and television shows.

In FILM “Birdman” leads the way with 10 nominations, “Inherent Vice” follows with 7 nominations, and “Boyhood” with 6.

In TELEVISION “Game of Thrones” leads with 12 nominations, “True Detective” with 9 nominations, while “Fargo” and “The Knick” tie with 8 nominations.

In VIDEO GAMES “Dragon Age: Inquisition” and “Child of Light” lead with 4 nominations.

What a bizarre year for video games. Was the first year of the next generation a success? Well, it was different.

Nintendo probably has the greatest story here. Back in March we wrote about their struggling profits and what a world without Nintendo may look like after unveiling their new console – the Wii U. BBC news had reported that Nintendo executives took pay cuts, in the 20-30% range, including president President Satoru Iwata who took a 50% pay cut after disappointing sales of the Wii U.

All of these projections implied a bleak future for one of the eldest video game company. So it feels refreshing to make an easy case that the Wii U had the best exclusive titles of 2014.

2014 is halfway over and we’ve already seen some great stuff. It’s really difficult to single out what’s best in any category. So we’ve given our picks for the Top 3 movies, shows, and video games.

First Place

Metacritic: 88
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

“The Grand Budapest Hotel” had a limited release on March 14 after receiving a strong word-of-mouth from the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival back on February 6th. Critics raved about it use of style to express emotional ideas, many called it Wes Anderson’s most mature film to date. The film is now out on DVD and Blu-Ray, so you should definitely check it out.

Metacritic: 94
Rotten Tomatoes: 98%

“Game of Thrones” just completed its 4th season two weeks ago. Season four is its highest rated season on MetaCritic. In addition to being widely regarded as a great show, it is also right behind “The Walking Dead” as the most popular show currently on television.

Metacritic: 90 on PC, 91 on PS3, 92 on Xbox 360

“Dark Souls II” is a difficult game to say the least, but the more difficult the challenge the greater the reward. Critics and gamers have been raving about this sequel, many state that it vastly improves upon the original. It may not be the top discussion at the water cooler, like “Mario Kart 8” or “Titanfall,” but it’s still the strongest game of 2014. (more…)

Next month’s E3 is going to reveal a lot and it’s going to be exciting to see what games will be testing the powers of the new-gen consoles. The year is almost halfway over and we’ve already seen some excellent games.

Keep in mind that this list co-ranks both the games released and the potential/expectations of upcoming titles. Also many games still haven’t announced their release dates and could be pushed to 2015.
