We have fully updated all of our Oscar Predictions. Now including the categories: Original Song, Documentary Feature, and Foreign Feature.

With “Interstellar’s” reviews not quite being raves, it has been knocked down a few levels. The close we draw to the end of the year, the safer films like “Boyhood,” “The Imitation Game,” “Birdman,” and “The Theory of Everything” look.

There are still some movies to be seen. “Unbroken” has a lot of potential. Others would include “A Most Violent Year,” “The Gambler,” “Selma,” and “Into the Woods.”

So here is where we are right now. After the jump, we have our ranked listings for all of the contenders. Click the “More” links to expand on the category and see other potential contenders.

birdman-trailer-keaton-nortonFestival Circuit: Oscar potentials “Birdman,” The Imitation Game,” and “Wild” rock Telluride

Every year the summer blockbusters begin to simmer down. September comes along and studios start the long campaigning for their chosen films. Historically, the Venice Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival can  jump the award season.

Last year, Oscar rivals “12 Years a Slave” and “Gravity” exploded out of Telluride with rave reviews. This year there are two films sharing the word “Oscar” in many tweets from Colorado. Morten Tyldum’s “The Imitation Game” and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Birdman.”

Other notable films that met some positive feedback were Jean-Marc Vallee’s “Wild” and Jon Stewart’s “Rosewater.”

Now that two of the most important film festivals have completed it’s time for us to examine which films are looking strong for the Oscar season.

We have fully updated all of our predictions, click on the Oscar tab to see all predicted nominees, alternates, and dark horses.

The films stands at an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, so even though it is topping most of our lists it seems highly unlikely that it will be a major winner at the end of 2014.  (more…)
