This may be our second to last Golden Globe Predictions unless something significant happens.
The HFPA recently stated that both “The Martian” and “Joy” would be considered comedies. Other notable activities included rejecting Rooney Mara and Alicia Vikander’s placement as “Supporting Actresses.”
We have made all of these updates. We have also done the Television categories. You can keep watch here to see if anything changes between now and the week before the nominations are announced.

A lot of what happens in the pre-cursor awards will determine the outcome of the bigger ceremonies such as the Globes, SAG, Critics Choice, and the Oscars.
Before the end of the year we will have a couple of these. These predictions can be pretty bold cause many of these critics groups are fairly unpredictable.
We looked at the National Board of Review Award, the New York Film Critics Circle, the LA Film Critics Association, the Screen Actors Guild Nominees, and the Critics Choice Award Nominees.
These won’t be as detailed as our Globes or Oscar Predictions, but it’s still important to look at them anyway. (more…)

Golden Globes: Updated Film Predictions – October
Golden Globes: Updated Film Predictions – October
We have updated our Film Predictions for the Golden Globes. We were going to do the television shows as well, but it seems like not much has changed there.

Big steps have been made by “Joy,” “Spotlight,” and “Room.” However, there are still many films to be seen. “I Saw the Light” gets pushed to 2016, making the “Musical/Comedy” categories even more obscure.

Oscars: Post TIFF Oscar Predictions
Oscars: Post TIFF Oscar Predictions
The festivals aren’t quite over yet. The New York Film Festival will kick off with Robert Zemeckis’ “The Walk” on the 25th. Meanwhile, in this comforting interlude, we decided to go ahead and give our predictions a much needed makeover after these past revealing weeks.
What have we learned?
- “Spotlight” is the real deal
- Kaufman’s “Anomalisa” will rival “Inside Out.”
- “The Danish Girl” was good, but with some lukewarm response.
- “Beasts of No Nation” and “Steve Jobs” are strong contenders, but are not likely are winners.
- “The Hateful Eight” test screened to strong reactions, has an intermission “Gone with the Wind” style.
- “The Martian” sounds like a strong crowd-pleaser, should nab some tech attention.
- “Sicario” is a strong sleeper pick, as is “Son of Saul.”
- “Room,” after a strong couple of showings, will likely earn Brie Larson an actress nomination.
- Cate Blanchett will rival Cate Blanchett after two strong performances in both “Carol” and “Truth”
- “Suffragette,” “Freeheld,” “Our Brand is Crisis,” and “I Saw the Light.” all fall off quite a bit after low to mixed responses.
