Preview: The Potential of “Big Eyes”

4jadPreview: The Potential of “Big Eyes”

“Big Eyes” is good, or so say the small group of people who have seen early test screenings of the film. The consensus doesn’t exactly rave about, nor does it shame the film – it is good they say. Keep in mind you can never fully grasp the quality of a film from such a small group of people, it helps but we will only know “Big Eyes” full potential once it has premiered to a larger audience, perhaps at a festival.

The movie is based on a true story. We follow Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), a man who became a national celebrity after he pioneered the mass production of prints of big-eyed kid kids. He claimed to be the artist, but he wasn’t. His wife, Margaret Keane (Amy Adams) painted them from their basement. This broke up their marriage and let to a court battle, Walter claiming that his wife was crazy. It all ended when the judge put up two easels, side by side, and challenged each of them to paint a “big eyes” painting. Walter claimed he had a shoulder injury and couldn’t do it, while Margaret drew a big-eyed painting right there.

Awards: Final Oscar Predictions 2013

Oh what a year! So many great films and an Oscar lineup that is a little bizarre at times. This has been one of the best years for movies in a long time. So as much of a hobby it is of mine to predict this kind of stuff, I will say don’t  just go out and watch the award-winners. Watch all that was nominated and the films that were snubbed which wouldn’t have been any other year.Anyways, it has come down to this, I have predicted the Oscars for four years now and each year I’m understanding a little more of the Academy mannerisms (though I don’t think any will ever fully unlock that box.)

Awards: Oscar Predictions 2013 – September/October
by Matthew Durham

I recently wrote an article about What we learned from Telluride, Venice and Toronto. Within it I kind of hinted at what Oscar Predictions would be looking like come February (Ceremony has been moved to February, Announcement of nominations to January.)

I had meant to do my predictions earlier, but wanted to do some major research before posting them, a lot of mathematics and consideration help from other more popular Oscar bloggers at websites and most importantly Gold Derby, which takes all the bloggers predictions and narrows them in percentages.

So here are my predictions for the 2013 Oscar nominations at this point:
