SN: “Cinderella” is the first big Oscar contender of 2015

Cinderella546ce702af616SN: “Cinderella” is the first big Oscar contender of 2015

“Cinderella” is on its way to the top of the weekend box office looking to receive between $65M and $75M by the end of Sunday. It also scored a strong 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Many people originally rolled their eyes at the thought of a live-action recreation of the fairytale. But you could immediately gather from the trailers that this was a beautiful looking movie, that could potentially have a strong presence in the technical Oscar categories in 2016.

Films released early in the year are at a disadvantage when it comes to Oscar, but the solid box office numbers and reviews will help keep this film fresh in voters minds by the end of the year.

It is unlikely it will make an appearance in the major categories, but it could easily be considered a front-runner for nominations in many of the technical categories including Production Design, Costumes, and Makeup/Hairstyling.

Oscar: Way too Early Oscar Predictions – 2016

quentin-tarantino-hateful-eightOscar: Way too Early Oscar Predictions – 2016

Wow. There are a lot of great film to look forward to next year. Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, David O. Russell, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Tom Hooper, Stephen Frears, Joel/Ethan Coen, Martin Scorsese, Werner Herzog, Gus van Sant, Terrence Malick, and Ridley Scott all have films in the mix.

The big story though is the release of a 40 year-old film written/directed by Orson Welles. So we could potentially have a strong line-up of contenders.

Again, this early on most of these predictions are guided by the talent attached to the project (both on and off camera), the potential release dates, and the distribution. Because it is so early we only have Best Picture, Directors, and the acting categories predicted. Take from these what you can to make your own predictions as well!
