2014 Emmy Predictions

SideNote: “Transparent” and “Modern Family” will be likely favorites for the Comedy Emmy

SideNote: “Transparent” and “Modern Family” will be likely favorites for the Comedy Emmy

Currently in our Emmy Predictions we are thinking that “Transparent” follows up their surprise Golden Globe victory with another victory at the Emmys later this year.

So could “Transparent” derail “Modern Family” from winning its sixth straight Emmy for best Comedy series? According to our recent poll, both shows tied for the top spot when readers were asked which show would come out victorious.

The Golden Globes surprised everyone by not nominating “Modern Family” for Comedy series at all last year. However, it’s easy to tell that Emmy voters love the series that is now concluding another strong season.

Other potential contenders that did well in our poll were “Veep,” “Louie,” and “Parks and Recreation.” Make of all this what you will, but for now we’ll stick to “Transparent” making a strong appearance at the Emmys. Watch out for “Veep,” “Louie,” “Silicon Valley,” and “Parks and Recreation” though.

Our new poll asks what the Best “Walt Disney Pictures” film is of this decade so far. Strong potential contenders include “Toy Story 3,” “Frozen,” and “Into the Woods.”

“So Did The Fat Lady” – Louie
“I Wasn’t Ready (Pilot)” – Orange is the New Black
“Optimal Tip-To-Tip Efficiency” – Silicon Valley
“Special Relationship” – Veep
“Episode 305” – Episodes

Last Update: 07/12/14

“Orange is the New Black” is going to win a lot, but it’s not going to win everything by any means. When it comes to writing “Louie” has the edge here with the controversial (even though it didn’t need to be) episode “So Did The Fat Lady.”

Emmys: Best Writing – Drama

BB6Best Writing – Drama

“Ozymandias” – Breaking Bad
“Felina” – Breaking Bad
“The Secret Fate Of All Of Life” – True Detective
“Chapter 14” – House of Cards
“The Children” – Game of Thrones

Last Update: 07/12/14

Many consider “Ozymandias” the best episode of “Breaking Bad,” though it failed to receive a directing nomination, so “Felina” could easily be the “Breaking Bad” episode that voters love.

Emmys: Best Directing – Comedy

Suzanne_lesbian_deniedBest Directing – Comedy

“Lesbian Request Denied” – Orange is the New Black
“Elevator Part 6” – Louie
“Vegas” – Modern Family
“Minimum Viable Product” – Silicon Valley
“Episode 309” – Episodes
“100” – Glee

Last Update: 07/12/14

Jodie Foster should win this award for directing “Lesbian Request Denied.” It’ll be close though with “Elevator Part 6.”

Emmys: Best Directing – Drama

Walt_and_Holly_FelinaBest Directing – Drama

“Felina” – Breaking Bad
“Who Goes There” – True Detective
“The Watchers On The Wall” – Game of Thrones
“Chapter 14” – House of Cards
“Farewell Daddy Blues” – Boardwalk Empire
“Episode 1” – Downton Abbey

Last Update: 08/06/14

“Breaking Bad” should have the edge in both writing and directing categories. This one, however, contains two episodes that can easily rival the finale. “The Watchers On the Wall” and “Who Goes There” both have impeccable direction by Neil Marshall and Cary Joji Fukunaga.

Emmys: Best Guest Actress – Comedy

CPT104194668_highBest Guest Actress – Comedy

Uzo Aduba, Orange is the New Black
Tina Fey, Saturday Night Live
Laverne Cox, Orange is the New Black
Natasha Lyonne, Orange is the New Black
Melissa McCarthy, Saturday Night Live
Joan Cusack, Shameless

Last Update: 07/12/14

Out of the 3 actors nominated for “Orange is the New Black,” Uzo Aduba has the edge for playing Crazy Eyes. Meanwhile Tina Fey is an old favorite, and an actress adored by many, but I don’t know if a host performance on “Saturday Night Live” is enough to get her a victory.

Emmys: Best Guest Actor – Comedy

picture_3Best Guest Actor – Comedy

Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live
Bob Newhart, The Big Bang Theory
Louis CK, Saturday Night Live
Steve Buscemi, Portlandia
Gary Cole, Veep
Nathan Lane, Modern Family

Last Update: 07/12/14

Jimmy Fallon has a lot of momentum coming his way. With the episode he hosted of SNL being promoted in several other technical categories, and his new hit talk show. He is likely to also outshine Bob Newhart for an acting Emmy.

Emmys: Best Guest Actress – Drama

masters-of-sex-1-06-margaret-in-blueBest Guest Actress – Drama

Allison Janney, Masters of Sex
Jane Fonda, The Newsroom
Margo Martindale, The Americans
Diana Rigg, Game of Thrones
Kate Mara, House of Cards
Kate Burton, Scandal

Last Update: 07/12/14

Allison Janney just gives a damn near perfect performance in “Masters of Sex.” It’s possible though that she is snubbed and replaced with anyone else in the category, watch out for Jane Fonda in “The Newsroom,” a show voters seem to have some love for apparently.
