Here are my Top 10 Television Series’ of 2018:
10. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 13)
What a return to form. There are some hiccups in this season, but overall the franchise took a huge leap in incorporating social and political commentary into its usual debauchery. After many lukewarm seasons Rob McElhenney and his gang decided to take more risks this season, and it paid off.
9. Barry (Season 1)
What a bizarre season of television. Interweaving comedy into one of the most tragic characters on television. Bill Hader, Henry Winkler and the rest of the cast bring their A-game not to mention some expert direction from Hiro Murai. “Barry” is tonally unique and hypnotic in its execution.
What a Girl Wants
The Wedding Planner
Crazy Stupid Love
The Prince & Me
Maid in Manhattan
15. Computer Chess (Trippy Drama)
At first glance it’s a black and white documentary about nerds in the 80s, meeting at a hotel for a convention where their custom-made computer compete with one another in a tournament of chess. From there shit gets more and more odd.
14. American Ultra (Comedy/Drama)
This is not a good film. On the surface, and as advertised, it’s a typical fish-out-of-water, stoner flick. It’s more serious and brutal than that, but still provides some memorable moments.
Here are my personal top 10 favorite TV shows that aired in 2017:
Some quick honorable mentions:
Atypical – Season 1
This is one of the funnier new shows I saw in 2017. It has a strong heart without being overly sentimental. It’s funny, it’s endearing, and at times can feel all too real.
You’re the Worst – Season 4
This is one of my favorite modern comedies, but unfortunately season 4 was undoubtedly the weakest season. There are still some strong poignant moments that tackle the mental illnesses of the characters. I will always love watching these characters figure themselves out and compete with there neuroses.
Godless – Limited Series
They don’t make any great westerns anymore you say? Watch Godless on Netflix. If you’re a fan of the genre you will be deeply satisfied. (more…)
